You know the saying “fake it till you make it”? Like when you aren’t in the best of moods, but you know that being outwardly pissy will simply NOT help you make it through your day any faster?
Or when you have to deal with a boss who woke up on the wrong side of bed and is taking it out on you, yet you have to grin and bear it in order not to escalate his or her bad mood?
Or how about having to deal with those perpetually grumpy people you can’t avoid at work or in your personal life?
Try just “faking” happy, even if you’re not at that particular moment. It drives miserable people crazy!!!
At worst, you’ll be amused at the reactions you get when you meet an angry or rude comment with a big smile and a cheery “no problem, love it, yes!!!” At best, you’ll find that your current mood will automatically get brighter, just watching them squirm.
I had an ex boyfriend who was in a bad mood so often, that I actually started testing out this experiment on him.
Each time he’d come home in one of his “moods”, I just made sure to be extra peppy, and it drove him nuts.
Yet he couldn’t do anything about it. And you know what? MY moods always got better. I’m no longer with him (obviously), but I am thankful for our time together, because it gave me this fun trick. Now I do it all the time. It’s fun!
Results from research conducted over the past few decades indicates that even producing a fake smile could actually benefit you and actually cause happy feelings.
So, give it a try. Even if you’re not feeling it, just “act” happy and see what happens. You might be surprised.
